- Servitude is an encumbrance with which an immovable good - the servient land - is burdened on behalf of another immovable good - the dominant land.

Scope note
- In the Netherlands the only easement that is registered is a servitude (called "erfdienstbaarheid" ). A servitude is a burden on a parcel for the benefit of another parcel. Somewhat similar is a "kwalitatieve verplichting", see restrictive covenant.
